Oriol Romaní Alfonso
Oriol Romaní holds a doctorate in History (Cultural Anthropology) from the University of Barcelona (1982). He lectures in Social Anthropology at the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work (of which he was the director between 2001-2004) of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV). He is the coordinator of the Official Master’s Degree in Medical Anthropology and International Health during the first two years (2006 - 2008) and a member of the steering committee of the Inter-University Master’s Degree in Youth and Society since the beginning (2008-09). He also teaches on the International Master’s Degree Penal System and Social Problems (Criminal Law Department, University of Barcelona and University of La Plata, Argentina). He was one of the pioneers in Spain of the biographical methodology and the study of youth groups and drug use. As well as his research and studies on health and drugs (Medical Anthropology), many of them of an applied nature, he has also worked on youth cultures, and different aspects of social exclusion (Urban Anthropology).
- He has worked with private (IRES, GENUS, FAD, etc.) and public institutions (PNSD, OTDGC, local councils, etc.) particularly on issues of drugs and exclusion. He has acted as consultant for the European Union on Latin-American issues in various programs (Training Professionals "Southern Cone" 1994-96; Cities and Drugs URB-AL, 1997-2000, etc.).
- He is a member of the Board of GRUP IGIA (which he currently chairs), an interdisciplinary group of professionals who study and intervene in the field of drug addiction and health.
