Xavier Allué Martínez

 

Xavier Allué i Martínez was born in 1943 and graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine (University of Barcelona) in 1966. Between 1966 and 1968 he completed his specialist training in Pediatrics, also at the University of Barcelona. He undertook his postgraduate training in the USA (Fulbright Scholar) at the University of Oklahoma from 1968 to 1969 and then in pediatric pulmonology at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, from 1971 to 1972. In 1996 he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Medical Anthropology. And in 1997 he completed his doctorate in Anthropology at the Rovira I Virgili University. He has been the head of Pediatrics at the University Hospital of Tarragona "Joan XXIII". Since 1984 he has been lecturing at the Faculty of Medicine, Rovira i Virgili University, and since 1996 at the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work. He was the Medical Director of the University Hospital of Tarragona "Joan XXIII" from 1992 to 1994. He has taken part in over 100 courses, roundtables, conferences and presentations at professional conferences, and he has published 62 scientific publications referenced in Spanish and international journals, and made more than 80 scientific communications at conferences and scientific meetings. He has written two books as the sole author and 20 book chapters. He has translated 8 books from English and written more than 1100 journalistic publications in local and national newspapers. He was a founding member of the Sections (later Societies) of Pediatric Intensive Care and Pediatric Pneumology of the AEP. Between 1981 and 1983 he was president of the Medical Association of the Balearic Islands-Ibiza. For eight years he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Catalan Pediatric Society and he is currently a member of the Spanish Society of Social Pediatrics.
